An odd one-night stay here. Friendly, welcoming owner(?) let down by a rude member of staff. I'll start by saying maybe we're just not the right demographic. But arrival was good, the person on check-in was friendly and the hotel had a unique charm. Room was nice, with modern bathroom and spacious, clean etc. We went to use the spa facilities and realised we had no towels or robes, so went to check out what the situation was by going downstairs where we met a woman who was talking to someone else. We waited patiently until she was finished and then asked about how the spa worked - there was a definite language barrier, but she concluded with 'towels from room' and walked off. A bit odd but we put it down to language barrier. We went for the dinner option after a long day of hiking for ease, and it started off great. 5 courses which were very nice and served promptly until dessert. The same woman managing the spa area was also our server and when it came to dessert, she brought my partner hers and was the first of many to be served. As she came back out with more and more desserts, she continued to serve other tables but not me (remember, my partner on our table for two already had hers). I waited, and she continued to serve over 10 other people and still nothing for me. I tried to catch her eye but after serving the last table next to us (four people) she then started chatting away with them. We tried to get her attention but to no avail. When she finally acknowledged us and we asked politely about my dessert, wondering if there was a mistake thinking I didn't want one, she just said 'yes, yes, yes' in a seemingly disinterested tone to shut us up and came back and put one down for me. Maybe all of the above was the language barrier, but didn't seem to have that issue anywhere else at all. Good value for the room and food, nice setting and good location - but that single member of staff really made us feel unwelcome.

They really don't like kids there. During August 2019, we arrived with my wife and my 1.5 years old boy. The woman (the boss I guess) looked at our boy and said that we cannot stay at the hotel because they do not accept children (she didn't even say hello). She said that the hotel was not for children and also said that the cook in the kitchen doesn't know how to cook for kids and that we should leave. Then, I shown her our reservation made few months ago and pointed out that on the reservation made online I mentioned that we will come with a kid and asked her why nobody of her staff read this comment and contacted me. She told me that it was probably her daughter who handled our reservation. She did not apologize once but said many times that we had to leave. I have never been received like that in a Hotel. The kid was exhausted and wanted to sleep. We had to leave and look for another Hotel. The Cristallo Hotel across the street is really great, less expensive with a pool inside and they have no problem with kids there.

The hotel having several qualities: sympathy of Maria (hotel owner?) and the SPA guy; hearty breakfast; great location; easy parking; the view from the balcony. However me and my son went through an unpleasant situation that negatively impacted our impressions. We were very anxious about the possibility of enjoying the swimming pool, but due to it was inside the hotel's SPA, some aspects prevented us from enjoying it: operating up to 7 pm; we were supposed to be silent and it was not allowed to take big dives; the worst: the water was extremely cold (in an indoor pool!!). Obviously, we didn't get inside and went back to the room disappointed. I looked for an alternative activity and found out from the description on the hotel's website that bikes were offered to guests. We went down to the reception, that was empty. There was only a dog, which belonged to a lady (maybe Maria's mother or mother-in-law). Innocently, my son went to pet him, as he was used to doing with other pets we met on our long trip. The dog let out a loud and angry bark and immediately appeared the old lady, that extremely dry and rude, scolded us for touching the dog. We apologize, but she didn't make the slightest point of being understanding or kind. An employee appeared and, in English, I asked about the bikes. Speaking Italian, the lady asked the clerk what we wanted and he talked about the bikes. I didn't quite understand what she said, but it was something like “say we don't have them”. I still replied, referring to the description of the hotel's website, but he reinforced that it didn’t. Disappointed with the pool issue and now with the bikes, I thanked them and headed towards the street, to cool my head. My son, howerver, asked us to go back to the room. When we head for the elevator the lady called me and in an inquisitive tone asked me if we were guests. I replied to her shaking the room key. Note: The lady was near the reception when we arrived with our luggages. I’d never been through such an embarrassing situation and it ruined my day. I felt offended as a guest and as a foreigner, for not being fluente in Italian or German. The next day we were greeted by the kind Maria, but we got a disaproving look from the lady, head to toe. Lady: Congratulations on the hotel you built, probably with a lot of effort and dedication. Be aware, however, that it is foreigners like me who contribute to keeping your hotel running. For my part, I guarantee that I will never return. Greetings to Mary! In time: now reading the hotel reviews here on Google I realized that this lady's pet peeve is about children. Well, since that's the problem, better to put in the description that the hotel is for adults only, it would save many guests the stress!

Lovely little hotel ideally located for exploring The Dolomites. Marlies is a great host, no reasonable request was ever refused. View from our room was stunning. The spa in the basement was excellent. Just be aware the bar is run on a tighter timetable than one would expect in Italy, none of your last man out at midnight that we're used to in Ireland.

Beware of the mother. Lady in her 80's is to be ignored / avoided where possible. She is very rude and judgmental. We received a bottle of grappa at the end of our stay as an apology for the things she had said, but based on previous comments on Google maps she has been the same for 5 years. What we experienced -Rude at check in and not welcoming, seems specifically aimed at 2 year old son. - Took passports then forgot about them and left them on counter (we found them unguarded on reception table 2 hours later) - sits in restaurant and stares at people the whole time - came in to check what I was doing in self service kitchen area while I boiled an egg, just came in and stared. - suggested we might want Christmas eve dinner in the bar, away from other guests 'so we (our son) wouldn't disturb them' It's clear she does not like kids so not sure what of the above we would have if we came without a child. Once we complained to the daughter she was apologetic and much more attentive but the mother did not change. Other than that the food was great, rooms good level of quality and sauna area worth a visit for sure.

Great hotel in a superb localisation run by a lovely family of 3 generations (daughter, mother and grandmother) Tasty breakfast, free parking, free pool and free spa. Newly renovated bathroom in our room. Balcony with a great view. Elevator that was a plus after whole day of hiking. We are so happy that we stayed at this hotel and not some hotel in Cortina d'Ampezzo as we initially planned because Toblach and hotel Tschurtschenthaler are right in the middle of the südtirol best attractions such as: Tre cime di lavaredo, Lago di sorapis, prato piazza, lago di braies, via val fiscalina and so on. We will be coming back, Jakub and Maria from Sweden.
